Johnny Tripod is a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix with lots of personality and an endearing smile. As a rescue dog, Johnny’s background is somewhat of an enigma. He was brought to Chicago in June 2008 from a shelter in southern Illinois and was placed at Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation to prepare him for adoption. When the volunteers at CCRF first met Johnny (then named Bentley), he was underweight, infested with fleas and deer ticks, and wasn’t using his broken left rear leg. He was taken to Roscoe Village Animal Hospital for medical care, and there he was diagnosed with stage two heartworm disease. As if he didn’t have enough to handle, the RVAH vets also discovered a BB lodged in Johnny’s chest during a routine x-ray. With a lot of care and attention, Johnny was treated for heartworm, had his leg amputated, and began learning how to navigate his new environment on only three legs. He spent several months recovering at the nearby Animal Ark Veterinary Clinic before returning to CCRF in October. The very day he returned to CCRF, his future adoptive parents happened to visit the shelter to meet Johnny, whose profile they had seen on the CCRF website. A few short walks in the neighborhood later, Johnny was officially adopted on October 14, 2008. Johnny now lives a happy, active life on the northside of Chicago, and he doesn’t let having three legs slow him down one bit!
